Death Row

February 19, 2011

So February has been a very busy month! Last week I did 2 days work experience at BBC Good Food and Olive magazine, then 2 days with Jonathan Gregson. My dissertation is coming to an end with only a few more thousand words to write on the history of food photography.

This week, I collaborated with 2nd year Graphic Design student, Matt Prosser, who approached me to take some food photographs for a book he’s making on the last meals of prisoners on Death Row. A bit of a strange request, but I was intrigued and after a full day of shooting yesterday, I’m pretty happy with the results. Can’t wait to see the book once it’s finished!

Below is a sneak peek of some of the images from the shoot:

Allen Lee Davis’ last meal – 350 pound ‘Tiny’ Davis had one lobster tail, fried potatoes, a half-pound of shrimp, six ounces of clams, half a loaf of garlic bread and 32 ounces of root beer. Death by Electrocution.

Karla Faye Tucker’s last meal – Banana, Peach and Garden Salad with ranch dressing. Death by Lethal Injection.

James Rexford Powell’s last meal – One pot of coffee (he said he wanted to stay awake for the whole thing). Death by Lethal Injection.

Victor Feguer’s last meal – A single olive with the pit still in it (as a symbol of peace). Death by hanging.

Timothy McVeigh’s last meal – Two pints of mint choc-chip ice cream. Death by Lethal Injection.
